Adoption

We wish to make our adoption process go smoothly for both the adopter and our pets! If you are interested in one of our adoptive pets, we invite you stop by the shelter to meet the pet and speak to our staff. 

Once you find an adoptive pet that seems to be a good fit for you and the pet, we typically are able to do an on-site adoption that day. If you are unsure and would like to think about the decision overnight, we do offer a 24-hour adoption hold for the pet. We want to ensure that you have time to make this big decision!

Once the decision to adopt a pet is made, we will complete a "Trial for Adoption" Contract and collect the adoption fees. This allows the adopter to have a week to make sure the pet is the right fit for their environment, etc. If not, the pet may be returned to the shelter during that week and the adoption fees will be returned. If everything is going well at the end of the  week, the adoption will be finalized and  fees are processed. Adoption fees may be paid in cash or by check. Please note: LAHS doesn't currently have the  ability to process cards.
